Pediatric Hearing Services in Oshawa
We’re hearing care experts, but we’re also parents – and there’s nothing more important than the healthy development of our children.
Knowing the status of your child’s hearing is important and key in making decisions that will help shape their future. This starts with a comprehensive hearing assessment with the latest in diagnostic testing equipment, conducted by our audiologist specializing in pediatrics. In this appointment, the audiologist will take the time you need to understand your child’s results and assist in making a plan if further steps are required. If your child hasn’t been responding at home or is struggling to hear well at school, a hearing assessment could alleviate some concerns about their hearing abilities and address if early intervention is required.
We offer comprehensive pediatric hearing services that work with your child’s comfort level to ensure a stress-free and supportive environment, no matter your child’s age. We also offer infant and newborn hearing assessments as part of Ontario’s Infant Hearing Program.

Ontario’s Infant Hearing Program
Two out of every 1,000 babies born have a hearing loss, and four of those 1,000 develop a hearing loss by the age of five. If you’re concerned that your newborn, infant or toddler is struggling to respond or hear at home, we can assess their hearing to ease your worries about your child’s development.
Ontario’s Infant Hearing Program is available for all Ontario residents and will monitor and mitigate risks to your child’s hearing so their development of speech and language isn’t hindered or delayed.
Our team will ensure the process of testing your infant is stress-free and simple. We will ensure the appointment is streamlined and a smooth experience for both of you, which also ensures that we can get accurate results without stress. There are specific instructions prior to your visit. Please ensure you follow the instructions as outlined in the pre-visit e-mail.
Pediatric Assessments
We offer conditioned play audiometry (CPA) and visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA), tympanometry, pure tone audiometry, speech reception tests and automatic brainstem response testing (ABR).
Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA)
This test is done for children under 5 years old. It involves playing a game, such a placing a toy in a bucket when a sound is heard.
The child may also look at a visual reinforcer such as a cartoon character on a screen when they hear a sound.
Pure Tone Audiometry
Speech Discrimination Tests
Tympanometry
ABR (Automatic Brainstem Response) Testing
This test is done at our clinic under Ontario’s Infant Hearing Program. A child should receive an Infant Hearing Screening after birth.
If they pass the screening, no further testing is required. If they fail the screening, or are identified as a baby with risk factors for hearing loss for various reasons, they will come for ABR testing. Some babies will require multiple ABR’s to monitor hearing ability.
An ABR is a safe and painless test to see how the hearing nerves and brain respond to sounds. It gives health care providers information about possible hearing loss.
Babies must be sleeping during this test, therefore it is very important to follow the instructions provided prior to coming for this appointment.
